CTEP has released a project team member application (PTMA) for Copanlisib (Bayer). The documents are on the NRG website here.

Interested applicants should notify NRG Oncology Leadership and submit PTMA to the appropriate protocol development office.

Applicants, please submit the form to the NRG protocol development office by COB Tuesday, January 10, 2017. NRG Oncology will submit the application to CTEP by the deadline of January 17, 2017.

Deborah Watkins Bruner, R.N. Ph.D., FAAN and Maura Lianne Gillison, M.D., Ph.D. were among 79 members internationally to be elected into the National Academy of Medicine on October 17, 2016. Members are elected based on the individual’s major contributions and commitment to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health. Election into the National Academy of Medicine is considered one of the highest honors in the health and medicine fields. Read the full article here.

Dr. Larissa Korde joined the NCI’s Clinical Investigations Branch (CIB), CTEP, DCTD on September 1st to provide expertise and oversight of the Breast Cancers clinical trials portfolio under an interagency agreement between NCI and the University of Washington where she is Associate Professor in the Division of Medical Oncology.  Dr. Korde is well known to the NCTN Program community and NCI.  She completed a Medical Oncology Fellowship and Cancer Prevention Fellowship at NCI and then was on staff at NCI in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics from 2005 to 2009.  Dr. Korde will be dividing her time between her responsibilities at the University of Washington and NCI/CTEP.

Dr. Korde will be working with us at CTEP as she transitions to her new responsibilities and with CCCT as she integrates into her new role with the NCI Breast Cancer Steering Committee.  We will provide her full NCI contact information to the NCTN Group Offices as soon as it is becomes available in September/October.  We are excited to have Dr. Korde here at NCI and know that her experience and expertise will continue to be a great benefit to all of us involved in NCI-sponsored clinical trials programs!

Thomas B. Julian, MD, named chair of NRG Oncology Communications Committee; co-chair of NRG Oncology Publications Committee
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Norman Wolmark has designated Dr. Thomas Julian as an NRG Oncology deputy chair, and has appointed him chair of the NRG Oncology Communications Committee and co-chair of the NRG Oncology Publications Committee. Dr. Julian is currently the chair for the NRG Surgical Oncology Committee and is also co-chair for the NRG Local – Regional Breast Subcommittee. Dr. Julian is director of the Division of Breast Surgical Oncology at Allegheny General Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Professor of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine, and Professor of Surgery at Temple University School of Medicine. He is an accomplished breast cancer surgeon, researcher and educator, and is senior director of Medical Affairs at NSABP Foundation. June 20, 2016

Norman Wolmark, MD, NRG Oncology Group Chair, has been selected by his peers as a nominee in OncLive's 2016 Giants of Cancer Care® awards for recognition of his contributions in breast cancer research. The nominees from each category were announced on June 2, 2016, at OncLive's gala event, “An Evening Under the Stars,” at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Winners will be announced at the PER® 34th Annual Chemotherapy Foundation Symposium in New York City in November 2016. Read more

Anetumab Ravtansine PTMA

CTEP has released a project team member application (PTMA) for  anetumab ravtansine (Bayer). The documents are on the NRG website here.

NRG Oncology has narrowed interest to the following areas of study for anetumab ravtansine:

• In combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors in NSCLC, and/or ovarian cancer; 
• In combination studies with other ADCs where target antigens are co-expressed: glembatumumab (gpNMB) in metastatic breast cancer and squamous cell lung cancer.

Interested applicants should notify NRG Oncology Leadership and submit PTMA to the appropriate protocol development office.

  • NRG Oncology NCORP PILOT Projects
    NRG Oncology NCORP is soliciting PILOT projects for applications focused on the National Cancer Moonshot priorities as announced by the White House and led by Vice President Joe Biden.  Areas of interest include: 

    • Patient Reported Outcomes/Toxicities on Molecularly Targeted Therapies; 
    • Patient Adherence to or Issues of Access to Oral Chemotherapeutic Agents; 
    • Health Disparities related to Adherence to or Issues of Access to molecular/genetic testing and targeted therapies; and
    • Big Data linking the NRG databases and biobank for exploring molecular targets for cancer prevention, cancer screening, or symptom management therapies.

    Patricia A. Ganz, MD, to receive ASCO's Inaugural Joseph V. Simone Award and Lecture
    Dr. Patricia Ganz will receive the American Society of Clinical Oncology's (ASCO) first annual Joseph V. Simone Award and Lecture for Excellence in Quality and Safety in the Care of Patients with Cancer. She will accept the award and present the keynote lecture at the 2016 ASCO Quality Care Symposium on February 26 in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Ganz, distinguished professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and David Geffen School of Medicine, and Director of Cancer Prevention and Control Research at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, is a co-chair of NRG Oncology's Patient Centered Outcomes Research Committee and a member of the NCORP Steering Committee.  Read more
