NRG Oncology seeks to fill the position of Chair of the NRG Oncology Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) Committee

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) Committee, one of NRG Oncology’s Non-Disease Site Scientific Committees, works to assess and improve patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in therapeutic and cancer control trials across NRG Oncology cancer disease site and non-disease site committees. The PCOR Committee Chair provides strategic leadership and oversight to advance the integration of PROs in therapeutic and cancer control trials. This role is central to NRG Oncology’s mission to improve the lives of cancer patientsby ensuring that patient-centered metrics are rigorously and thoughtfully incorporated into clinical research. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the PCOR Committee in developing and refining strategies to assess and improve PROs across disease site and non-disease site committees.
  • Ensuring alignment of PCOR activities with NRG Oncology’s scientific and patient-centered goals.
  • Collaborating with disease site liaisons and investigators to guide study design and selection of validated PRO metrics, including symptoms/toxicities, quality of life (QOL), neurocognition, host factors, comorbidity, survivorship, utilities, patient preferences, and/or costs.
  • Working closely with the NCORP Committees to harmonize endpoint prioritization and study design, particularly for trials funded by the Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP).
  • Delegating effectively; reassigning duties where necessary to meet timelines or deadlines, including timely publication of PRO papers
  • Promoting harmonization of PRO metrics and assessment time points across trials to reduce patient burden and enhance data quality; working with NRG team to improve PRO compliance
  • Overseeing the prioritization of PRO endpoints in randomized phase II and III trials, ensuring that endpoints are hypothesis-driven and statistically powered.
  • Ensuring Committee members are appointed on a regular basis and remain engaged with the Committee.
  • Fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and well-structured committee environment.
  • Supporting the mentoring and training of young and/or new investigators who are interested in working with NRG Oncology.
  • Serving as an advocate for NRG Oncology in all affairs.
  • Engaging across NRG Oncology; liaising with other committee chairs, participating in NRG Oncology meetings, keeping NRG Oncology Group Chairs informed of trends, changes, or concerns of note.
  • Collaborating with NRG Oncology leadership and members to write and edit scientific grants to support NRG Oncology research activities, including the NRG Oncology core grant, when applicable.
  • Supporting the conduct of activities that are compliant with regulations, NRG Policies and Procedures, and practices that ensure potential conflicts are disclosed and managed.

NRG Oncology Committee Chairs must be at an NRG Oncology Member Institution and eligible to receive federal funding. Nominal funds from federal grants to offset related effort and travel to NRG Oncology meetings is provided. Committee Chairs are appointed by the NRG Oncology Group Chairs for a six-year term, renewable once.
