NRG Oncology seeks to fill the position of Chair of the NRG Oncology Translational Science Committee.

The Translational Science Committee, one of NRG Oncology’s Non-Disease Site Scientific Committees, provides expert guidance and oversight to ensure that cutting-edge translational research is effectively integrated into NRG Oncology’s clinical trial portfolio. The committee supports the development and review of translational projects, facilitates educational programming to introduce emerging technologies, and collaborates on funded initiatives such as BIQSFP, Moonshot, SPORE, and Navigator projects. Through its organ-specific working groups and strategic partnerships, the committee plays a vital role in advancing NRG Oncology’s mission to improve lives through research, with a focus on cancers affecting women’s health (gynecologic), breast and prostate cancer, and early-stage disease of various types.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Guiding the overall direction of the Translational Science Committee to ensure alignment with NRG Oncology’s mission and research priorities.
  • Collaborating with disease site investigators to guide study design and integration of translational science components into clinical trial protocols when appropriate.
  • Working closely with organ-specific translational working groups.
  • Supporting the development, review, and implementation of translational research projects, including BIQSFP, Moonshot, SPORE, and Navigator initiatives.
  • Delegating effectively; reassigning duties where necessary to meet timelines or deadlines.
  • Leading the planning and execution of educational sessions at NRG Oncology meetings to introduce emerging technologies and foster scientific exchange.
  • Ensuring Committee members are appointed on a regular basis and remain engaged with the Committee.
  • Fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and well-structured committee environment.
  • Supporting the mentoring and training of young and/or new investigators who are interested in working with NRG Oncology.
  • Serving as an advocate for NRG Oncology in all affairs.
  • Engaging across NRG Oncology; liaising with other committee chairs, participating in NRG Oncology meetings, keeping NRG Oncology Group Chairs informed of trends, changes, or concerns of note.
  • Collaborating with NRG Oncology leadership and members to write and edit scientific grants to support NRG Oncology research activities, including the NRG Oncology core grant, when applicable.
  • Supporting the conduct of activities that are compliant with regulations, NRG Policies and Procedures, and practices that ensure potential conflicts are disclosed and managed.

NRG Oncology Committee Chairs must be at an NRG Oncology Member Institution and eligible to receive federal funding. Nominal funds from federal grants to offset related effort and travel to NRG Oncology meetings is provided. Committee Chairs are appointed by the NRG Oncology Group Chairs for a six-year term, renewable once.
