The NRG Oncology Summer meeting is fast approaching! The Protocol Support Committee (PSC) has been working hard to put together a variety of programing specifically for our clinical trial nurse (CTN) and clinical research associate (CRA) members. We are excited to share a sneak peek of what to expect at the 2023 NRG Oncology July Meeting in Philadelphia:

1. On Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 7:30 am ET- 11:50 am ET, the PSC will offer a “Continuing Education Program” for in-person and virtual attendees. This session is for both seasoned and new research staff. Administrative updates will be provided by CTSU, TRIAD and Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) Compliance. In addition, we are thrilled to welcome back Dr. Thomas George and Brian Miller, PharmD, for two very timely and informative presentations. Dr. George will be presenting Genomic Analysis 101 to further our understanding of the concepts and principles behind genomics and oncology care, and Brian Miller, PharmD, will be present Immunotherapy 101 to discuss what immunotherapy is and how it’s used to treat cancer. We are also excited to have Dr. Carmen Allegra and our PSC CTN Subcommittee Chair Alison Ivey, RN, MS, MBA, ONC, CCRP to present an Overview of Trial Design & Study Endpoints which will review the clinical trial designs most commonly used in oncology clinical trials. Dr. Bethany Anderson will also join the program with a basic Radiation 101 presentation providing the principles of radiation therapy and how it is integrated into common cancer treatment regimens. The morning session will then be extended for our in-person attendees from 12:05 pm- 1:15 pm ET with a special Lunch & Learn program. A box lunch (pre-registration required) will be provided for attendees to enjoy while they discuss current research related topics in a round table setting.

2. On Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 1:30 pm- ET - 4:45 pm ET the PSC will host our annual summer roundtable session. The roundtable session aims to provide members with an opportunity to ask questions, discuss various topics and best practices. The tables are hosted by NRG Staff and experts in the field of research. There will be several Best Practice tables hosted by PSC members who represent our Nurse and CRA membership. We are happy to announce that for the first time, several of the roundtables will be offered virtually. Virtual attendees will join a single virtual room and remain in that room for the duration of the roundtable session. The in-person presenters will rotate every 20-minutes to offer the virtual attendees access to some of the most popular table topics!

3. On Friday, July 21, 2023, from 10:30 am ET- 11:45 am ET, in response to recent meeting evaluations, we are thrilled to report that we will be hosting our first PSC Protocol Spotlight Session! We have invited the Study Chairs from three trials, BR009, GU010 and GY025, to present and discuss each trial. This will allow our PSC members to learn about the trial, ask questions, and identify any issues with the trial (for example: kit orders, data management or nursing).

The PSC will be submitting applications for Nursing Contact Hours and CME credits for these sessions. We look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia and celebrating 10 years of NRG Oncology.
