NRG Oncology seeks to fill the position of Vice Chair of the Early Career Mentorship Subcommittee

NRG Oncology is seeking an engaged and collaborative leader to serve as Vice Chair of the Early Career Mentorship (ECM) Subcommittee. The ECM Subcommittee is part of the NRG Oncology’s Investigator & Career Development (ICD) Committee, one of NRG Oncology’s Administrative Committees, and plays a critical role in NRG Oncology’s commitment to the inclusion of early-career investigators in the clinical trial and protocol development process. Through educational programming, mentorship initiatives, and leadership development opportunities, the subcommittee helps investigators gain the knowledge, skills, and professional networks necessary to become successful contributors and leaders within NRG Oncology.

The Vice Chair will work closely with the Chair, ICD and ECM leadership, and NRG Oncology committee leaders to advance the subcommittee’s mission of developing and supporting the next generation of clinical trial investigators. This position provides an opportunity to influence investigator development across NRG Oncology while helping to build a sustainable research enterprise that will continue to advance cancer research for years to come. Key responsibilities include:

• Partnering with the Chair to provide strategic and operational leadership for the ECM Subcommittee.
• Assisting with the development and implementation of the mentorship, educational, and leadership development initiatives for early-career investigators.
• Supporting oversight and growth of the Early Career Investigator Mentored Fellowship Program.
• Assisting with planning educational sessions focused on protocol development, statistical considerations, translational research, and investigator career advancement.
• Promoting participation of early-career investigators in protocol development and NRG Oncology committee activities.
• Ensuring accessibility to leadership opportunities and research roles through training and structured support mechanisms.
• Facilitating mentor-mentee engagement and supporting mentor recruitment efforts.
• Collaborating with NRG disease sites, modality groups, and committees to identify opportunities for investigator development and leadership training.
• Monitoring program outcomes, assessing investigator participation and progress, and recommending improvements to strengthen engagement, impact, and subcommittee effectiveness. Fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and well-structured subcommittee environment.
• Engaging across NRG Oncology by liaising with committee chairs, participating in NRG Oncology meetings by attending both in-person semiannual meetings and interim virtual meetings, and keeping NRG Oncology Group Chairs informed of relevant trends, opportunities, or concerns.
• Representing the ECM Subcommittee during NRG Oncology meetings and leadership discussions.
• Ensuring Subcommittee members are appointed on a regular basis and remain actively engaged in Subcommittee activities.
• Collaborating with NRG Oncology leadership and members to write and edit scientific grants to support NRG Oncology research activities, including the NRG Oncology core grant, when applicable.
• Supporting the conduct of activities that comply with regulations, NRG Policies and Procedures, and conflict of interest requirements.
• Serving as an advocate for NRG Oncology in all affairs.

NRG Oncology Committee Vice Chairs must be at an active NRG Oncology Member Institution in good standing and eligible to receive federal funding. Nominal funds from federal grants to offset related effort and travel to NRG Oncology meetings are provided. Committee Vice Chairs are appointed by the NRG Oncology Group Chairs for a six-year term, renewable once.
