The NRG Oncology Protocol Support Committee’s Clinical Trials and Clinical Research Associate Workshops at NRG 2020

The Clinical Trials Nurse (CTN) and Clinical Research Associate (CRA) Workshop and Educational Sessions A and B were hosted by the NRG Oncology Protocol Support Committee.

Workshop & Educational Session A
Lead Facilitator, Karen Holeva, kicked off the first session of #NRG2020, the CTN/CRA Workshop & Educational Session A. The first presenter was Mimi Passarello of the NRG Oncology Statistical & Data Management Center (SDMC) reviewed NRG Oncology's SDMC Audit Program, which did not stop despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Mimi also discussed monitoring, institutional performance reports, electronic signatures, and protocol deviations. Megan Blackburn from CTSU discussed COVID-19 information, including where to find updates on the CTSU website, NCI COVID-19 protocols, OPEN updates, and RUMS reminders. Amanda Sly from CIRB reviewed COVID-19-CIRB related FAQs, remote consent being allowed during the pandemic, and Study Chair response instructions. The final presenter during Workshop A was Jennifer Dill who presented “Best Practices for Remote Trial Coordination and Program Management”.

Attendees were able to submit questions during the presentations and these will be posted on the NRG Oncology website about a week after #NRG2020. Watch upcoming NRG Oncology e-mail broadcasts for an update about when this information will be available.

Workshop and Educational Session B
Following some welcoming remarks from Lead Facilitator, Karen Holeva, the CTN/CRA Workshop & Educational Session B started the #NRG2020 afternoon. Cherita N. Ogunsanya, a registered dietitian and licensed dietitian/nutritionist, presented first on how to improve overall health, making informed decisions regarding health, and how to determine the difference between fact and fiction with health news or information. Ogunsanya also defined theories of how diet and nutrition have been linked to cancer findings. The second presentation was by Yoga Therapist, Sadie Grossman who highlighted the value of finding time for mindfulness through movement, breathing, meditation, and balance in the busy day-to-day of a provider.
